Documents to prepare

Passport (all pages, including cover)
Identity documentation is required for every applicant.

EU/EEA national ID card
Can supplement passport for EU/EEA citizens.

Proof of legal stay in Denmark
Required for couples who are in Denmark when applying, and for non-EU partners.

Certificate of marital status from your home country
Confirms you are free to marry under your home country's law.

Final divorce decree from previous marriage
A previous marriage must be legally ended before a new one.

Death certificate of previous spouse
Required to confirm the previous marriage has ended.

Birth certificates of shared children
Establishes the family relationship where applicable.

Authorised translation into Danish, English or German
Documents in other languages must be translated by an authorised translator.

Apostille or legalisation of foreign documents
Confirms foreign documents are genuine. UK and US documents typically need an apostille.

Multilingual marriage certificate (after the wedding)
Avoids extra translation in many EU countries, including Germany.
